hi, i'm here!

Antony informed me that while he was in America last year he checked my blog every day!

He has gone away to Exeter for a few weeks....this is really just to test if he is still paying attention!

Blogs have kind of died. I have not blogged for months and upon checking my blogroll todi discovered that most of the blogs i followed have died! One of the actual people who wrote is dead too. Gosh...

I blame facebook!

An update!!!!

I feel a bit ill this morning, I had quite a disturbed sleep, which was frequently interrupted by a pain in my stomach! I blame the movie last night for the disturbing dreams, which were black and white with a hint of cobalt blue and seemed as though a strobe light was flashing throughout! And the sore tummy could possibly be blamed on eating pringles late at night….I should have resisted!!

I suppose my excuse for not having written anything for a while was too much uni work, but I have no excuse now, I haven’t been there for a week, the lectures are finished for the semester, and I only have exams to look forward to now. The first one isn’t until the 28th April, and I know I really should be studying every day, but I can’t get motivated, I can’t help but think that anything I read today will clearly be forgotten by the time I sit the exam.

I can’t believe I have 5 months off. Its clearly fantastic!! I am most looking forward to being able to read fiction. I miss reading just for fun!

Recently I had the most amazing birthday party of my life!! I turned five again, there was a magician and everything! I like prancing about in fairy wings and a tutu! It’s a shame that this is not a socially acceptable style of dress for day to day life, because I would like to wear it ALL THE TIME!

Also, on my birthday Liam was sooooooo cute!! He organised a treasure hunt around new college to find presents and poetry. It was special!

I joined the gym. Since doing so I have found myself quite addicted to fitness classes! They are really good! I feel sad that I cant go today because I’m working!

It's been a while since I posted anything on my blog, but no-one seems to have noticed....

Too much work, it always sucks when I have too much work!

25 random things

well...i just posted this on facebook...thought i might put it on here too...

1. I cried this week because I thought my mum was going to be diagnosed with cancer, and the idea of it made me go into shock. (It turns out that she does not….good news!)
2. In an ideal world, and if money was no object, I would never like to get a real job, I would like to spend my time writing novels, I don’t mind if they ever get published.
3. I have kept a diary for several years. I intend to spend a lot of time reading them when I am 80.
4. I have also had a blog for a few years. My blog is not like my diary. If you want to read my blog you can! You can find it at www.samgibb.blogspot.com you could even leave a comment!
5. I have lost quite a lot of weight in the last year. It was a pretty good idea.
6. I get quite easily bored in conversations which don’t involve laughter.
7. Poppet, my sausage dog often winks at me! People seem reluctant to believe this when I tell them.
8. I really like singing. Just not in public. My Dad has never heard me sing.
9. I really like finding out people’s secrets. I read people’s text messages. This upsets people and gets me into trouble sometimes…. I would never blackmail anyone though…
10. I’m in love. It’s pretty sweet!
11. I need to pee right now.
12. Sometimes I over share.
13. I cringe when my mum (and her husband Andrew) use acronyms like TMI. It just seems very wrong.
14. I’m thinking about tagging my mum in this, so I’m wondering if I should delete number 14…but I don’t think I will. While I’m here I will also mention that the text language is also wrong.
15. I don’t like text messages that contain no vowels.
16. My favourite moment at new college this week:
Sam : (To Liam) I got you this
Liam : Oh wow
James Eglinton : Is it your birthday?
Liam : No, it’s a muffin.
17. I haven’t eaten any chocolate since 2007! Fact!
18. I have never dyed my hair.
19. I have realised that at some point soon I am going to dye my hair because I have found a few white ones. I am not convinced that this is not in some ways linked to GHD use! When I do dye my hair, I will dye it the same colour….I really like the colour of my hair
20. My favourite film is Edward Scissorhands. I also really like Labyrinth, Amelie, The muppet Christmas Carol, Zoolander and Napolean Dynamite
21. When I watched The Notebook I cried inconsolably at the end. I was so deeply affected by the film that I cried again the next day thinking about it (I think I was hormonal that day)
22. Antony and I used to pretend to fall asleep when my Granny sand speed Bonnie Boat in the hope that she wouldn’t finish the song. My granny was tonedeaf!
23. I often really really miss my Granny….
24. I like living in Edinburgh so much that I would very much like to live here all my life.
25. I really want my children to grow up in a house with a garden. And I want to grow tomatoes in a greenhouse. I don’t like the taste of raw tomatoes!

Happy Birthday...

On the 25th of January we sometimes was haggis
It’s Rabbie Day and if he were alive today,
He would be 250 years old,
And that would be weird,
A bit like his poems.

But still, this morning I feel inspired
I’m writing a poem cos it feels,
Like I should,
Although he would have used,
Really strange words.

So, instead of using strange words,
I’m using a strange structure,
Well, no real structure,
And no rhyming pattern,
And no point to it!

Tails is dead...

So, I was walking past a shop on North bridge on the way to work. A hand written sign informed me that Tails had died. I was quite shocked!

Strange, I didn't actually know him, but I felt a bit sad.

People at school used to talk about him. He was a sort of mythical person who lived in a cave in cockburn street and would pierce any part of you even though you were only 14. I think I was scared of him. But oddly fascinated by stories of him.

Turn's out he was actually a real person...and mortal...

Not Christmas day...

Another great not Christmas day, although i was disappointed to be outvoted on the muppet Christmas carol...

Not Christmas day is something we do every year, we have a bunch of people celebrating Christmas on a day that is not Christmas, it is therefor called "not Christmas day" and it is always fun! we have Christmas dinner, Christmas presents (some really LOVELY!) and Christmas fun!

Here are some pictures of it...for the non facebook people!

Thats fun huh?

So, I am officially ready for Christmas! after just returning from town getting the stocking presents for the kids (Antony and Steph). Town was absolutely dead! God bless the credit crunch :)

Its Chriiiiiiiistmas!

So, I'm officailly allowed to be excitied about Christmas time now that the exams are over! I have been looking forward to this for so many weeks, so really can't account for the fact that I have felt miserable all day today!

I think it may be linked to this weather, Poppet and I got soaked, that was pretty miserable! But yeah, spent most of the day catching up on weeks worth of hollyoaks and feeling generally fed up!

What is wrong with me?

Anyway, Steph came roud tonight, we watched the nightmare before Christmas and talked about boys!(maybe I just talked about one boy actually) I love my sister! Without her the day would have been all together a waste of time!

lack of blogging...huh?

I have not had time to blog recently, i dont really have time to blog now, but I'm at work, and I finish soon, I have revision sitting infront of me but I am not taking anything else in for now...my brain is full!

I really dont have time for all the things in my life, I have to squeeze in quite a lot these days, I remember life pre-new college, when I woke up, watched this morning and hung out with poppet! Now I feel like I never stop!

I have an exam on monday, then on on the 17th and one on the 18th. I cant wait till they are over! I hate exams so much! And i hate studying, It hard to explain, I just feel like i cant get into it in the way i should becasue it doesn't have a point where you can say you are done revising, do you follow?no? Like an essay, you can put it off to an extent, but eventually you sit down and write the thing, so when its done its done, then you stop. But when you revise, you just have to keep going and going until you go and sit the exam, and you forget most of the stuff you read anyway, unless you are a boy genius like Jimmy Neutron, which i am not!

I have a Christmas tree in my lounge. All the presents are wrapped and under it. I thought i should get it done so that i can focus on revision, but I have felt no Christmas joy yet..

Oh, and there was a crazy flood in the flat on Thursday. No one drowned.

I'm pretty much done now. I'm off to look over my notes again, make sure I know the difference between my hypathetical and categorical imperatives and all that!

I dont have much to say....

(but if you vote for me all your wildest dreams will come true)

So, yesterday, while i was passing some time at reception between making myself cups of tea i was clicking on the next blog button, as i sometimes do. I'm not sure why, they are never really very good, most trying to sell some sort of computer software or whatever. Anyway, yesterday i found this blog by this girl who was writing her blog to her boyfriend apologising for something which had happened and then went on to talkign about the various ways in which she self harms.

Why did she write that on the internet? concerning!

Hopefully my blog is less depressive! gosh...

So this week I become homeless again! Prior warning of these things is always a bonus huh? These people are coming to destroy the flat to put in new radiators and a new fire. This is good, in that our flat might not be so freezing all the time! however, for this to happen they are taking up all the flooring, and talking down one kitchen cupboard! the man was also mean to Hannah for no reason! Idiot! Luckily I have options, and I am staying at Delhaig, Poppet too!

Oh, and I have too much work to do, it is seriously irritating my happiness!

I realise that I called this post "I don't have much to say..." yet it is actually quite long now! And it has no real point to it!

oh, and also, its officially winter! You can tell becasue starbucks are now selling the christmas drinks! How nice are toffee nut lattes? However, they are not really that good for you, and contain so many calories that they have to replace a meal if you are me and really want one!

And, you may have noticed (no, you didn't notice) that the one word film reviews have disappered? Well, the thing is, since starting uni I have had no time to go to the cinema, or to do anything!!!! its taken over my life! But I did go this week, the one word film reviews might return, with my life soon...but probably not!

I had an idea that i should really type these in microsoft word first then cut and paste it instead of writing in this box because there is no spell checker and there are sooo many mistakes. I am really bad at typing and spelling. Its not cool.

So I'm done now. I lost you in paragraph 2 huh? Oh well.

right.

Vote for Pedro.

remember...never play with matches

This educational video was around when i was little, it taught me to be curious about the fun that matches might be, but anyway, i thought i would include it today becasue there are lots of fireworks and bonfires tonight with it being the 5th Novemeber (happy birthday Antony). The video is pure nostalgia!

In other news, i think America has decded on their next president, and Obama won. I hope he doesn't turn out to be a bad choice, i think the other guy would have been really bad though so i suppose its good. having said that.....i think it would be really hard to upstage Bush in the role of "worst president in history".

And...hmmm....no....nothing!

On the doorstep...(a poem about another short spell of homelessness, and getting pneumonia and frostbite....on Halloween)

I waited for two hours,
thats a long time to need to pee,
poppet launched himself against the door,
In a desparate attempt to reach me!

My keys on the inside in my other bag,
and Hannah in a hospital visiting Eva,
I was really very cold,
It felt like forever!

I listened to the labyrinth sountrack,
and phoned my friend,
and sang,
The End.

sunday secrets...

Every sunday morning I read post secret, i never forget, some of those secrets are really really weird!

I never watch the news though...hardly ever!

What does this say about me?

Saturday, October 18, 2008

theres really nothing of interest here...dont read it! (reverse psychology?)

Ive spent the whole day becoming better aquainted with my new friend Nehemiah. I'm pretty fed up of him now. Do you think it would be wrong to compare him to hitler in my essay? He seems to have this big thing about breeding with anyone who is foreign. But then its probably wrong to compare a jew to Hitler now i think about it yeah?

Anyway, its started to really not be fun getting up for work, its reached that point in the year when i have to get up in the dark. It sucks so bad! and on top of that its just really cold just outside my duvet! Its only going to get worse too, next weekend (I think) the clock go back an hour, this will possible make it dark for getting up for uni too, so this means getting up in darkness every day! Sometimes winter is crap! and if it want to be cold, then thats ok, i can cope, but its just annoying when it rain too! Although i do have a fun new kath kidston umberella which makes rain time more fun...

My mum is 50 tomorrow. Thats pretty old.

I just realised that I don't have to work next weekend. I actually have 2 days off!!!!! this hasn't happened in a while! And we are going to have fun in alton towers. Getting back at 4 am on monday. I think i have a lecture at 10...thats not ideal...

Blog maintenance...

I just deleted my book blog....it was never updated and therefore there was no point in it!

Tom reminded me the other day that I have a dream blog. I often forget about it. I have not deleted it because i like it, was reading some of the dreams this morning at work....i clearly have mental health issues!

I've been spending a lot of my time this week complaining about everything (aparenlty) in a manic state.

Really I'm slightly worried.

I figure I will survive. Its very unlikely for me to actually die. If I do, I'm sorry for your loss! : )

I'm not sure...

If I am allowed to believe in the psychic ability that I clearly have!

Recently i have become increasingly aware that I can actually read peoples minds.

Steph and I even tested this ability on holiday after I freaked her out but knowing what song was in her head! We then went on to test it and she thought of lots of songs and i guessed them all. Also, a LOT of times recently I have started singing a song (and some really random) and people I am with will say that they were just thinking that song in thier head!

I take my phone out of my bag sometimes thinking there is a message and there isnt, but then as i go to put it away again a message arrives.I have decided that there are like electronic signals reaching my brain before my phone and that scares me cos I think i could get radiation poisoning from that!

last night the dvd player at work went missing. I decided that ______(insert random name because i cant say it)in room __ might have it, you shoudl go and ask him. And he did...and I have no idea why I knew this!

I can't think of other examples of this right now, I do remember having a conversation with my mum about this when I was a bit younger and she said that there was some kind of similar thing with my aunty audrey. It's a bit weird huh?

Priorities and Procrastination

I have so much reading to do tonight! The annoying thing is that I have actually already done it but it made so little sense to me that I have to do it all again! anyone else think I am completely doomed? All I can gather about this Thomas Aqinas or whatever his name is...is that he should have been given a word limit! he just goes on and on and on and then on some more!...gosh!

Anyway, yeah i should really be doing that but I am not going to for the next hour because something special happened today!! the new next directory arrived...and its the christmas one!! So this next hour is dedicated to studying that instead!

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

and?

yeah, not much.

Well uni is pretty weird, and so far im pretty sure i am completely out of my depth but i think thats ok, next week....yeah next week i will probably be just as clueless. One thing i did find out is that there is a new college choir! so i decided to join, that brought me a small amount of joy. singing makes me happy! Also, the library door makes me laugh, only me, no-one else finds it even a little bit funny. its the biggest door on the planet!! i find it funny becasue it makes me feel like i am on one of the film sets that have giant props to make the actors look tiny. i think thats funny. im wierd maybe.

Anyway, i have donated a considerable amount of my time catching up on hollyoaks...its been an intense time in that little village! people killing eachother, people contracting HIV, people getting married, people having affairs, people finding out that people who they thought were dead are actually still alive and faked it all on an insurance claim...its crazy. Its not the best use of my time, i should really be reading a million pages of crazy christian ethics stuff that i dont understand. babble babble babble.

i am doomed!

Extreme makeover!

here are before and after pictures of my new hair!

Wednesday, September 17, 2008

So here's news from Sam world...

I started Uni! Not actual uni, but induction stuff and standing in long queue for 2 and a half hours to register...not fun! managed to miss my appointment with my director of studies (who is also the principal of new college) and i was scared i would get in trouble!) but he didn't shout at me...

and, very excitingly for me, i got a bus pass for the first time ever, im not sure why I have never got one before but its fun having a bus pass! But yeah, i figured that i was spending more money getting change for the bus than anything else, so this will save me money and i wont have a handbag full of chewing gum from now on!

My holiday was fun! It was hot but it rained a lot, didn't spend too much time in the sun although according to people who i have seen so far i do have a tan! We spent the first week doing not very much, we didnt have a car so could only go as far as we could walk...which was walmart at the end of the street! Anyway, the second week mum and andrew arrived with the car and we did lots of fun things. In 14 days we went to 8 theme parks! All the disney ones were good excep epcot which was a bit blah, and antony branded it "too educational" although the space lauch thing was amazing! My favorite disney park was hollywood studios! it was very fun! The car stunt show and indiana jones were really good and the aerosmith roller coaster was my favorite rollercoaster, because it incorporated a sing along!

Busch Gardens and sea world were also good, the roller coasters at busch gardens were really good! But Universal was my favorite place! both parks are really good, the day at Islands of adventure was ruined a bit when there was a thunder storm and then when i lost my camera i was seriously gutted!! I had some really good pictures that i was looking forward to sharing with fun captions...

For some reason on holiday i always end up having minor injuries! this holiday was no exception! i skinned my knee and my knuckle on the bottom of the swimming pool( which for some reason was really sharp on the sides and bottom, like sandpaper with glass in it!) i only have half a toenail on my right big toe after kicking the side of the table, the nail was hanging off so i had to pull it off, it was well painful, and it looks sooooo horrible....i will show you if you want! I also managed to roll over it after this with my suitcase...twice! i opened the fridge on my heel, it was so sore i fell over! I had water stuck in my ear for about 3 days which was very painful and made me half deaf! i was attacked by the biting insects aain as always! and had a huge bite on my foot! it was so big i thought it was a nest of spider eggs for 2 days!

But yeah, all in all a fun time! Came back more exhausted than relaxed! I want to go back again, because i love aeropostale! the clothes are so cool and theres none in the uk, and you can get there stuff on the internet but they dont ship to the uk! oh well. Also, theres going to be a harry potter ride at universal in 2010, that will be fun!

I'm done now. I go back to work today for the first time in ages!sigh...

I'm back from my holidays! Here's Augusts one word film reviews....very over due!

Angus, Thongs and perfect snogging - ok (Although i was sad because Alan Davies is actually old and this is not ok!)
The x-files :i want to believe - meh
You dont mess with the zohan - crap! (and well dodgy!)
Wild child - samey (it was like st trinians!)

and thats it, oh I did see House bunny in America, it was quite funny, i din't like it as much as Ant, he laughs so loud in the cinema! The seats in the cinema were well good, they are comfy as anything!

2. Edinburgh University have not sent me a book list.

3. I start Uni very soon (that ,in itself, is stressful)

4. Boys' are messing with my friends' minds'(yes that was plural boys and plural friends(and plural minds)...this leads me to the conclusion that boys are bad!)

5. Im working too much

6. Edinburgh is too busy right now

7. I spent too much money in the next sale...that was bad.

8. I might be being stalked...but then, so might we all!

There is probably more....yeah. this list is stressing me out too!

People keep smashing our windows at the hall in granton, its quite annoying, but they are so lazy they didn't even bother to climb through the window and steal the equiptment. I suppose thats a good thing though. Smashed windows are annoying though.

People keep getting married! Lots of them! Its weird!

And, thats the non-eventful events of the moment.

yip...

What they dont tell you about junior camp....

You dont get much sleep, the kids are always hyper, there will be no cup of tea containing milk in the first 24 hours, you dont really sit down on anything comfy for the whole week, the midgies will eat you alive!!!! and the ground is slippy when wet, you may get grass stains on your knees for the first time since you were 8...and you may find this quite novel.you may fall down the stairs carrying expensive equiptment and experience people fussing over the box's contents more than you.

...you might want to think about taking time off to recover!

teenage kicks!

Steph had a party last night to celebrate turning 18, although, technically she isn't 18 for a couple of weeks yet. So she had a house/garden party at my mums. And do you know what....it was really weird!

I know why it was weird, it was weird because everyone there seemed so wee! Like the majority of the people there are in 6th year at school, i dont think my 6th year looked so wee....were we that wee? They were kids!

I know that this means that I am old. I'm kind of ok with this...kind of...

This must be what old people mean about the police looking young, that might be the next stage?

Occasionally i use sleep as an escape from reality....because sometimes reality is a bit pants!

If I wasn't at work right now I could do with a wee snooze!

Things I dont want to see on my way to work....but did this morning!

-Vomit
-Excessive Litter
-Drunk People
-A Seagull eating a pidgeon!

Seriously, I was shocked by this seagull so much that i stood at the side of the road where it was a nd said no no no in a high pitched voice, i was unaware of the other human being on the scence until he looked at me as though i may have just escaped from an institution of some sort...then i felt i should explain why i was shouting no! so i said "sorry, its just that the seagull is actually eating the pidgeon and its really awful and its making me feel like ill and stuff"...he didnt respond much, i think he might have said "aye!".

I arrived at work and told the story to my friendly colleuges....they did not care!

the mega-crap trip!!

I dont want to go into too many details...but kevin ad I did not have very much fun on the mega bus....not that im surprsed at this or anythng...lets face it, it was always going to be bad, but it was like really bad!!

Its cramped, its always too hot or too cold, either way is uncomfortable! the people who get the mega bus are really odd people, they seem to go into this savage mega mentality where everyone is out for theirself and they wont apologise if they shove you! no! and they pretend to be sleeping so that the people who get on in newcastle cant get a seat (what a selfish girl that was, lying across three seats....she didnt wake up even after being prodded!)(and the tiny chinese woman who took the good leg room seat, as if she needed leg room she was about 4 ft tall, her feet didnt even reach the ground!)And for some reason these people can not wait to use the smelly toilet on the bus(NB(what does NB actually mean?) just no, i hope to get through this life without using one ever!)seriously, the bus driver had hardly even started the engine and they are jogging to the back of the bus like its a fun activity. One guy went 5 times!! well 5 times that we noticed, but we were asleep some of the time! I bet he was smoking in there actually, now i think about it. To top it all off the driver spoke way more than he needed to! and kept randomly tapping his micrphone to give us irrelevant information...or to ask directions!! (i kid you not!)

To repeat this experince two nights in a row was probably the most rediculous idea we (KEVIN) ever had! by nght two we were zombies,Kevin was so zombiefied that he nearly forgot me in a service station...we fell out...we didnt speak for about 3 hours, this was mainly because Kevin was asleep (although i woke him up to point out the angel of the north (which i doubt he remembers?) then i forgave him.

so, side effects of the excursion included being generally fatigued, sore throat, headache, runny and blocked nose, painful joints...

other than that i cant really complain i guess! : D will i get the mega bus again...im going to say no. I think I would sooner walk to London!

Im having fun in the garden today in my bare(i spelt this bear initially, for your mental image viewing pleasure i decided to tell you this) feet. its sunny, and i have discovered a clever way of making loose leaf tea in a mini cafe tierre (no i dont know hows that is spelled either) so that i dont have to make a whole pot and end up not enjoying cup two and beign completely disgusted with cup 3! Also, i realised today that for my whole life i have been hanging washing out all wrong! i have changed this now!

peace! (im a hippy, aparently a plastic one....ok)

Sunday, May 11, 2008

Tickets please!

I genuinely hadn't seen a bus conductor in about seven years...

This week i have seen two...

thats odd!

Poppet and Sam's small to medium sized adventure!

Here are some pictures I took on our small journey...

We started our walk here, its the wee walkway under the dean bridge.

Yes (Hannah and Tom you will notice i let him off his lead!)

And there is lots of water and trees and things down there...(none of my favorite trees but thats ok)

It is quite lovely.

After leaving this walkway we found ourselves in stockbridge which excited poppet because his favorite shop is there (its called justdogs, its like the only shop Poppet is like actually allowed in, although we get away with taking him into lots of places because of his blatent cuteness) but unfortunately the shop isnt open on mondays....sp poppet got no special treat today! : (

By accident really, we arrived in inverleith park where there is a nice pond thing , poppet here has a feather attached to the side of his mouth, i didnt remove it until 5 minutes ago, it looked funny

just so you know, you are not allowed to park in there!

Poppet and this swan had a staring contest....the swan won! HE was quite happy to terrorise the ducks though, what a bully!

I loved our small adventure, and Poppet did too(he is like totally passed out right now...aww) He spent the whole time trying to eat things he found on the ground and I listened to Sigur Ros and Amiina (who i only heard of like last week thanks to Richard - Thank you Richard....I know you will read this because i will force you to!) they are a bit like Sigur Ros really, probably because they are people who are in Sigur Ros....yeah

Anyway, yeah, that was all I wanted to say! Im worried that I am turning into one of those people with annoying Blogs that write about the most mundane things, like what they have in their bag. Am i one of them? first its check out the way I wrapped these presents, now its look where I walked my dog today....maybe tomorrow I will blog about what shampoo I use and post pictures of my bus journey to work...

Friday, April 25, 2008

sam has become uber kitsch...

i dont know why!

but wouldnt you lke to recieve presents that look like this??

i think its joyful!

this may be my new way of wrapping all presents!

worthy of note...

BOught whittards fairtrade tea bags today to take to work (becasue for some reason the teabags at work have been replaced by rediculous vending machine teabags with metal in them!!!) and I have to say that these are the best fairtrade teabags i have tried...by far!

Tales from the receptionist - initiative is my middle name!

Today at work.....DISASTER STRUCK!

the situation couldn't have been worse! i arrived to discover that something was wrong with the external ariel at the hostel and as a result of this the tv's were not working! this was of course a major disaster!! We were being faced with 38 angry men and no telly....i put my thinking cap on and decided that it would be a good idea to organise an activity!

The idea came to me stright away and it took me no time at all to rustle up a really impressive looking poster!

Of course, in true blue peter stlye we needed to create a "heres one i made earlier", the only problem was that we didnt have any spare socks lying around! so, using all our create powers and pulling our resourses we created our puppets.

Jeanette created bob using a plastic cup, some kitchen roll, an orange and some string.

and Taloolah is made from a latex glove , her earlings are paperclips and her hair is kitchen roll.

And at 11 o'clock....no one came to the group...

for some reason...

I havn't written for a while, ive not much to say....thats why generally i am such a quiet person.

Fear not....if you have been missing out on your sam blog fix...here is some news from me!

I have become a 24 year old, it was quite a simple transition, i didnt have to do much! It was a fun birthday, i went on an adventure! and then out with some family and friends. I recored the day in photo form on my rather spangly new camera which some of my friends really generously gifted me....and its very good. I have uploaded the photo's on facebook, but for those not on facebook...well thats a shame. I also made a video diary on my camera, really just becasue i could, it was fun, i edited it and was going to put it on youtube, but many problems did occur. If this is ever resoled i will put it on youtube and post it on my blog. Wont that be a special treat?

And my slightly good news is that i heard from Edinburgh uni this week too. I think the news is positive! Now, for those of you who are not up to date woth the sory past the highers rant.... Edinburgh decided to re-consider me when they found out that i had been to uni before (i didnt include this on my ucas form because i didnt want to be classed as a quitter! that would be bad because then they may have just thought that i would come along for a while then leave! ). So they asked for a copy of the transcripts and then said: thanks for the transcripts, we now want you to do a written piece.

So, i have to write a critical book review of Theology: The basics (Alistair E McGraph). its not to be more than 2000 words. The book came in the post yesterday, its thankfully not a giant book! I am a wee bitty stressed though. Mainly because i have never written a book review of a non-fictional book before (although dad reckons its fiction...sigh!) so i hope i dont mess it up. It would have been really handy for them to have sent me a marking scheme, then i would know exactly what to include. However, i will just try my best. I can't do anymore than that!

Thats really all my news, except that im definately getting smaller all the time! this is deliberate. When im very skinny i will write a book about my sucess! It will not involve only eating seeds! and lots of credit will go to kicklates!

oh p.s we went ice skating the other day, as a fun recreational activity! it was good, i can skate well considering the long gap of not skating. Murryfield has not change one bit in 12 years!! it could do with a lick of paint! Might go again soon, if you wanna come?

One for the rant list...

So, Edinburgh Uni contacted me this week. They informed me that 6 of my 8 highers do not count as they were more than 2 years ago.So they won't be offering me a place!

This makes me feel a little bit annoyed!! No-one ever informed me that these qualifications had a use by date.

Saturday, February 09, 2008

WOO HOO!

I was very excited to read this article in the evening news today!

We have been having a constant gripe about the dog poo in Granton, because it is rediculous. People just dont bother to clean up after thier dogs! And the kids are always getting it on their shoes, so when they come in for clubs....they get it on our carpet!

I hope this actually does make a difference! Im so sick of the poo! We have to constantly look at the ground as we wlak round our community, its just not safe not to!!

It is a bit pathetic that this whole initiative needs to be put in place to solve this problem really.People should take responcibility for there pets, and have respect for there local area! How hard is it to clean up after your dog? Not hard!

To whom it may concern,

There definately something wrong with the staff room fridge! I dont trust it one bit! If I make a cup of tea I always smell the milk and it often smells really weird. Sometimes it smells sour and when I ask in the kitchen they tell me it hasn't been there long enough to smell sour. The other day it smelled like bleach, which i supposed must have been because someone had cleaned the fridge or something. Today the milk smells like bananas. I dont understand how it can smell of banana's because there are no banana's in the fridge, and there is nothing banana flavoured. I asked the chef for a second opinion and she agreed that it smelled of banana's but this didn't seem to concern her, even though there was no explanation for this. I really need my own fride, and my own milk!

What I'm really trying to say is this...I think someone is trying to poison me. I don't know who and I dont know why!

If I die...its your responcibility to let the police know that they must do tests on the staff room fridge!

Thank you for you attention to this matter.

Yours Sincerely,

Samantha Gibb
Receptionist.

The sausage dog

Sometimes i write little poems, im weird like that!

Yesterday I wrote this limerick about poppet:

He’s quite a funny little dog,
His body’s shaped just like a log,
He’s cute, people think,
But his breath does stink,
One time he encountered a frog.

A hobby of his is to scratch on the door,
And licking my face if I lie on the floor,
And oh how he mocks,
By stealing my socks,
Still, I could not love him more.

The name of this terror is poppet,
He runs about like a rocket,
He swims like a seal,
It adds to his appeal,
When ground isn’t dry he gets mocket.

We live in a strange world....

So...aparently if you own a bank and want to install an air conditioning unit which will be situated on a flat roof you need to apply for planning permission, and as part of this process, you have to send 126 letters to tell the neighbours(some of which would have no view of it) just incase they might have a problem with it!

anyway...poppet was popular in falkirk today! I dont know if you have seen the bank of scotland/or halifax? advert with the sausage dog? anyway a girl came up to me and was gushing over the fact that she had seen the picture on the bill board but she had never seen a real one...seriously it was like she was actually star-struck. poppet looks identical to the one on the picture, ive seen them but i think that one has been digitally elongated!

Dad and i stopped for lunch in linlithgow on the way back, we sat outside (even though it was cold because poppet was with us) a lovely cafe and i discovered (by reading a sticker on a window) that linlithgow is a fair trade town! im very impressed by that! seemingly a town can be granted this status if enough shops and restaurants etc stock fairtrade products. Maybe one day Edinburgh will join that club and get stickers to say Edinburgh is a fairtrade capital city....that would look good!

Fairtrade fortnight is coming up actually, i found out tonight. We will be doing fair trade things in Granton with the kids. An we might get them to go and pester some shops to stock fair trade things.I Havn't pestered thorntons for a while..the diet has its downside. Maybe i will go in and ask them to stock chocolate which is fair trade/fat free/sugar free/and with no artificial colours or aspartame....hmmm, maybe not.

Ive replaced you already...

Ive got some new links which I have added because I may as well really.

post secret is quite a strange blog but its quite good. People send in homemade postcards with a secret on it to the people that run the blog and they put their secrets on the internet. Here is an example of one...

Elizabeth McGinnis is the local labour counciller for my area. So im spying on her.

Matt Little often has something interesting to share.

The nanolog is something i read quite often even although i dont know the guy that writes it (and I must be the only person in Scotland that doesn't - seriously)because he often has fun pictures to look at.

Chris Hinton has a new blog.

Welcome new links. May you update regularly and not end up being deleted!

I dont wanna....blog about it...

Today I decided that enough was enough!

I have given these people every oportunity to stop this from happening but it has got to the stage where it cant go on like this any longer.

Every time I click on a link of a blog which has been abandoned a little bit of me dies inside....well not really but it is annoying to see the same thing for over a year in some cases.

So I am officially saying goodbye to these bloggers:
Anneleen
Beth
Chris
Granton (yeah i guess Im probably partly to blame for this. If I decide to do an update I will re-add it)
Hannah
James (who was my origional blog pal : ( so sad!!)
Rosie
Ross

So long then.

If you do happen to update your blog and are saddened at this sudden deletion (a real word?) let me know and I will put you back on.

I may add some more links of other blogs I read if I get round to it...just becasue the place seems a bit deserted now.

Friday, January 25, 2008

Not a lot of people know that...

Im am actually a big fan of the beach boys! yes...(and if you should ever annoy me so much that i get very mad at you all you have to do is play "dont worry baby" and i cant not smile and/or sing along and probably forgive you)

I buy heat magazine every week but never really read it. Sometimes i do the crossword by looking up all the answers on the internet. I do find the tv guide useful though and the book/film reviews. And i like that there are not 12 pages of cosmetic surgery adverts at the back like some other magazines.

I now have an unlimited cinema card and have been to the cinema 10 times so far this month. i have seen one film twice becasue i went with different people. Antony and i saw three films in one day. And im very excited to do a monthly one word film review blog post on here. what a geek! Also i have stuck all of my cinema tickets in to my diary so that i can keep an eye on whether my cinema card is worth the monthly subscription.(loser!)

I dont eat after 7:30pm. This is part of a new healthy eating regime(well it is january), which includes not eating chocolate! The strange thing is that i am enjoying the whole experience which might sound strange, i write done everything i eat and i think the reason i like it is becasue i am a bit of a control freak.

I cried watching waterloo road this week! and i often cry watching rediculous soap operas...i dont know why! I cry at some films too. Im not as bad as my mum yet (thank goodness....she cries at extreme make over home edition!) but I think Stephanie actually thought i had a mental health problem when i cried soooo much at the end of "The Notebook". I was so emotional that the nexy day i creid again when i thought about it.

I have a weird crush on Allan Davies (from Johnathon Creek) and have done since i was about 13.

Im a bit sad really.

The Rant List...

This is a new technique I am using to vent my frustration!

It really has worked wonders for my mental health and has prevented me from doing something regretful, like going on a homicidal killing spree.

I would urge you to consider the rant list technique if you have ever felt that all the little niggles are getting too much and your brain is finding it a little bit too crowded to allow you to function as you would normally. Tell tale signs to look out for include; putting your shoes on the wrong feet and not noticing for two hours, brushing your teeth with hand cream or becoming so tired that you can’t even stay awake for a whole episode of torchwood.)

The technique of the rant list is simple. You take a pen and a piece of paper and you make a list of everything that is currently annoying you. By writing down the annoyance is expressed and doesn’t need to take up so much brain space. And this can be anything, big or small, if it is annoying you write it down. I guarantee you will feel the urge to kill shrinking as you let it all out.

So whether your communal stair smells of urine, you only lost 1 lb on your diet this week, or even if some idiot came to your Grandad’s funeral and stole your phone…just write it down and all the bitterness will go away.

Today, I feel only love for all mankind…

The end is nigh...

2007 is almost finished...that was quick!

Seemingly if the years start passing by quickly it signifies that one must be getting old. I beleive one might be, so one is for some reason speaking as one might speak if one was, infact, the Queen.

Funnily enough this year I watched the Queens speech for the first time as far as i can remember. We had to watch it at the request of our guests Fred and Audrey (Mum's new in-laws. Oh yeah, Mum got married. The Queens speech didnt really inspire me very much. Mind you it wasn't worse than Duncans speech (the "best man").

Disappointed with the Christmas number 1. Its on in the background right now, its pants! The origional version is good! If you would like to listen to a decent version listen to Mariah Cairey and Whitney Houston, its on the soundtrack to a film called "The prince of Egypt". It seems that the Christmas number one will continue to be dominated by the x-factor winner. It kind of takes the fun/surprise element out of it. And could they not make it a bit more christmassy? Obviously not.

Im a bit of a Christmas moan this year! but I do have some Christmas highlights too! The midnight service was good, it was led by Mary Morrison and I have discovered that I actually have a talent!! I can do Mary Morrison impressions!! Another highlight was the spur of the moment shopping trip on boxing day (in order to escape Andrews slide show of peru and another few hours of bargain hunt/cash in the attic/car booty). And I enjoyed my third year (maybe fourth? a relatively new tradition anyway) of carol singing in the royal infirmary, even though the majority of the wards were rediculously warm. Staying over night at Antony's was also fun - even though santa delivered my stocking to the wrong house : )

here is a festive photo of poppet for you.

The best breakfast in the world!

I have just decided that i have now experienced breakfast perfection! And it came in the form of this....

... A cinnamon and raisen bagel(toasted) with a little butter and orange blossom honey!

Yum!

its begining to look a lot like christmas...

OK!!! i know its a bit early! The thing is....i had a big pile of wrapped presents sitting in the lounge with nowhere to go...so i thought the christmas tree would be a good way to give them a home and not feel like the lounge is cluttered! and hannah has decorated the ikea men with candy canes because they dont go with the tree colour scheme!

we do need some more purple baubles though....its pretty though isnt it?

And!!! the christmas tree is actually older than me! fact!

I have also created an ipod playlist for christmas which i am sure will be used to death over the next few weeks...but i dont care because i love it! (although not so much that i would listen to "fairytale of newyork" on repeat for a rediculous length of time)

de ja vu....

grandad is in hospital again, this is pretty much the same time as last year. he had an operation yesterday which will hopefully mean that his wound that was infected will heal properly. I worried that the operation would be a bit much for him because he has lost so much weight but the doctors seemed to think he would be ok, and so far so good. he was in good spirits when i saw him, except that he was shaking a lot and made me laugh at the nickname he gave one of the nurses( which was very apt) and his response to my news about applying to university.
Grandad: so, girl, whats new with you?
me: not much, ive finished my application for uni
grandad: is that for your religious stuff?
dad: divinity!
grandad : good god!
everyone *laughs*
me: well indeed!

yeah, i hope i get accepted. i would be sad if i dont, i got an email from them the other day that said that the decision could take a few weeks...or could take until mid-march!

also, im ill today! im off work! i always feel bad about this and think people will assume im having a skive! im not debilitated, ive just got a bit of a cold i think, but my sinus' are blocked and i dont have my normal chirpy cheery receptionist voice and also im pretty much overwhelmed by snot(im practically a snot monster!) and i cant sleep because i keep coughing so much!

Have you got yours yet?

No....Im not certainly NOT talking abouit the limited edition of cadbury's wispa.

Christmas is just around the corner you know! And Christmas is definately not a time to take off your ethical socks!

I dont know if anyone else has noticed this but at Christmas there seems to be lots of chocolate around. And this can be hard for those of us who have gone fairtrade for the sake of the people making the chocolate!

Dont turn your back on your good intentions for the sake of convienience or saving money. Fair trade (devine)advent calenders are available (hooray!!) online and in some shops.

Mine is in the post!

Also, if you are reading this and you were considering getting me chocolate for Christmas. Please dont give me non-fairtrade chocolate. I will say "you shouldn't have" and actually mean it! Gifts of fairtrade chocolate/other surprises will be greatfully accepted!

Car banter

Last night we went to see a charming film called stardust. For those of you who automatically read that as sarcastic, it wasn’t I did actually think it was charming!

On the way to drop off the troop we discussed phobias, Antony basically accused me of being an irrational-fear-aholic. The conversation ended up being quite funny, and the joke wasn’t on me!

Ant : But Sam, you can’t just monopolise all the phobias, its not fair on everyone else.
Me: I don’t have them all, maybe if I am monopolising I only want the train stations. I’m not the only one with fears anyway, I’ve got my balloons, wind turbines and now driving, but you have got snakes and Steph is getting more agoraphobic by the day!
Steph: Hardly! I’m braver than any of you when it comes to spiders !
Ant, Hannah, Ben, Me : HA HA HA HA HA HA
Me: Steph, that would be arachnophobia.
Ant,Hannah, Ben, Me: HA HA HA HA HA HA
Steph : Oh no!
Ant,Hannah, Ben Me, Steph: HA HA HA HA HA

Antony had a party. We all got dressed up! here are some pictures. Hannah and I are "conjoined twin zombie brides. Ant is a scary-ass clown. Ben Webb is Freddy Kruger(he also looks like he is on stilts but its just cos Steph is so short....honestly, and Ben is only about 5 foot). Mum is a witch or spider web or something. Thats my dad dressed as a skeleton. Steph dressed as a pretty unscary fairy. Oh and the guy in the background is heads up Harry.

Retraction...

Antony and my Dad (and I think Steph jumped on the band wagon) have requested that i retract my statement regarding Jerry McCann on the grounds that it is invalid and they feel that I am accusing Mr McCann of something with no concrete evidence.

So.

The words i used were "Thats interesting" and "hmmm". I would like to publically apologise for these words. I would like to change them to "thats uninteresting" and "sigh".

Thank you for your attention.

Really????

This is a very long list of “interesting” facts. I have no evidence to support any of them as I found them on random internet pages! Don’t start to read this unless you have a while to waste. (the bit in brackets is my thoughts about these astounding(ly unfounded) facts)

If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.
(- It might hurt your throat a bit! Actually if you were continuously shouting you wouldn’t be able to eat or drink and would therefore starve or dehydrate!)

Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour.
(- I would say its probably more fun than weight watchers!)

Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people do.
(– Hannah, don’t be too alarmed, but you’re a gonner!)

The ant can lift 50 times its own weight, can pull 30 times its own weight and always falls over on its right side when intoxicated.
(- Did they find this out shooting a budweiser advert?)

Polar bears are left handed.
(- So they all die 9 years before they should! That’s a tradgedy!)

The catfish has over 27,000 taste buds.
(- And yet it spends all its time at the bottom of the tank eating other fishes poo!)

A cockroach will live nine days without it's head, before it starves to death.
(- This seriously bothers me! Firstly because its scary and secondly because its completely disgusting)

Butterflies taste with their feet.
(- it must be a real drag when they step on dogs dirt!)

An ostrich's eye is bigger than it's brain.
(what? no no! im going to research this furthur....no im not!but i dont beleive it!)

Dentists have recommended that a toothbrush be kept at least 6 feet away from a toilet to avoid airborne particles resulting from the flush.
(- um, in this case I will have to place my toothbrush just outside the bathroom door from now on!)

No piece of paper can be folded in half more than 7 times.
(- Its true!.Even really big bits of paper! Try this at home! But get adult supervision. Risk of paper-cut: high)

Donkeys kill more people annually than plane crashes.
(-Bad donkey!)

The king of hearts is the only king without a moustache.
(Now theres a thing….I wonder why that is? I wonder if he once tried to grow one and the other kings laughed at him for having a bum fluff moustashe?)

The first owner of the Marlboro Company died of lung cancer.
(-Must mention this to grandad)

Michael Jordan makes more money from Nike annually than all of the Nike factory workers in Malaysia combined.
(- I have no trouble believing this….and it disgusts me!)

It is possible to lead a cow upstairs...but not downstairs.
(- Useful to know, if I hadn’t known this I may have ended up with a cow in my flat forever! Crisis averted!)

On average, 100 people choke to death on ball-point pens every year.
(I wonder how many are stabbed to death with fountain pens! Perhaps the government should issue licences to those who can prove they can handle stationary responsibly!)

Elephants are the only animals that can't jump.
(- I think someone once said that white men cant jump either!)

Women blink nearly twice as much as men.
(- I think the extra blinking might occur whilst applying mascara!)

A snail can sleep for three years.
(- So can my brother)

The electric chair was invented by a dentist.
(- Was it a failed first attempt at a general anaesthetic?)

TYPEWRITER is the longest word that can be made using the letters only on one row of the keyboard.
(I have time to spare later. I will find a longer word!)

As of 2006, 200million blogs were left without updates.
(- Yip….)

Camels milk has 10 times more iron than cows milk.
(Im got going to try it to find out….they might have spat in it!)

Please carry on with you day….

No weddings and 4 funerals...

"oh Sam...get rid of that picture, I look like my brother and surely you know thats NOT a good thing" - My Aunty Margaet, a few weeks ago.

The lack of blogging has been partly to do with not having anything very happy to share. Its been quite a difficult time for my family in the last month losing family members and friends of the family. My Aunty Margaret and her brother (my uncle) Tom both passed away this month. Meeting relatives i had no recollection off and then seeing them twice in one month under very similar circumstances has been very strange. The funeral ceremony is becomming a little to familiar for my liking.(with no particular mention of "All things bright and beautiful" of course)

I guess we believe different things about what happens when we die, for that reason we all deal with the death of those close to us in diferent ways. And some of us don't deal with it at all.

Even if we dont believe in the concept of heaven there are certain things we do know: in death they are no longer in contant pain, they no longer struggle with confusion, the worrying is over, they no longer feel like a burden (even although we never thought of them as such) and that they are now at peace.

We are of course at a loss, there is a definate void that we are very aware off, particularly now, we no longer have them around to create new memories, or to tell us new stories, but we will always have the old memories and the old stories.

I'll be ready!

Heres an idea of something you could do in your spare time. Pop off to matalan and buy an outfit resembling a life guard uniform, go to crammond beach and run around pretending to be on baywatch and miming along to the theme song, and why not take your friend antony along who will video the whole thing and then edit it and send it to your sister in america as a lovely personal gift....what a nice idea...and then, without your permission, ant might just put it on the internet for the rest of us to see too!!

THIS IS HILARIOUS!!!
